Performance Course Offerings
Acting One
Acting One is designed to help students learn the fundamentals of stage presence, movement and voice control for the stage. The course covers improvisational theatre, theatre exercises, monologues and scene study of the modern theatre. The study and performance of scenes from world theatre is emphasized in Acting Two. An acting journal requiring regular entries of personal observations, class activities and performances as well as related Fine Arts activities is kept by each student.
Acting One is a prerequisite for Acting Two.
Acting Three
Acting Three is designed to meet the needs of the student who is interested in further acting skills and training the actor's instrument. The concentration during the semester is placed on in-depth character analysis, movement, creative playwriting and advanced improvisation.
Acting One -Two is a prerequisite for Acting Three.
Directing
In this class the fundamentals of directing are introduced. Such skills as staging techniques, actor coaching, script analysis and theatre philosophy are given strong emphasis. The student directs scenes which are performed before and invited audience at the end of the semester.
Acting One-Three or the consent of the instructor are prerequisites.
Advanced Theatre Performance
ATP is an intensified training course for the serious theatre students wishing to further develop performing and analytical skills. The course focuses on the study and performance of representative masterpieces of dramatic literature. A final project incorporates the art of play writing and the performance of an original one act play. The course may be taken for Level I or Level II credit.
Acting Three is a prerequisite for Advanced Theatre Performance..
Advanced Study in the Arts-Performance
Students develop their own study in acting, directing or play writing are possibilities. Working with the instructor as a teaching assistant is a popular option

Tech Theatre One
Tech Theatre One gives the students an opportunity to work "backstage" on actual theatre productions. Students have opportunities to develop skills in scenery construction, scene painting, special effects and production planning. These photos are two examples of musicals that were worked on extensively by the Tech Theatre classes. The focus of the class is provide a true "hands on" experience for the students. Students will also work with Vectorworks, a CADD based drafting program. Class time is split between class labs working on the current production or on the theatre itself and discussion sessions. No previous experience is necessary. If you are interested in learning how to "put it all together", this class will give you the opportunity to grow!
Tech Theatre Two
Tech Theatre Two gives the student the opportunity to work "backstage" as well. The concepts of stage lighting, sound, special effects and production planning are introduced and developed in this class. The class splits time between class labs and discussion periods. The class usually works on three productions: A straight play in the Studio Theatre, The Dance Show and the musical. Students will also work with Vectorworks, a CADD based drafting program. If you are interested in stretching yourself in a different way, this class will give you that opportunity .
Tech Theatre One is not a prerequisite for Tech Theatre Two.

Tech Theatre Three-Four
This course focuses on the aesthetic values in scene, lighting, costume and sound design. The design process from script analysis to design presentation is explored. Production planning and problem-solving activities round out the class experience. Opportunities for design experiences are provided with a lighting practicum with the Dance HP Concert. Tech 3-4 is a pre-requisite for designing STUNTS, Dance HP or the Short Play Festival. Assistant Design opportunities are also availble for the two Studio Theatre shows and the musical.
Tech Theatre One-Two is a prerequisite for Tech Theatre Three-Four or consent of the instructor..
