The Main Auditorium

The Auditorium is located on the east side of the school on St. John’s Street. The access for large pieces of equipment is via the North parking lot entrance.  There is a large garage door located at this entrance to unload equipment.  .  There is a large door in the stage left wing that can be used to load in scenery, props etc.  The door is approximately 5’-0” by 7’-6”.  It is also three feet up from the hallway floor.  It is the only way we can bring large equipment in. Please contact me for details if you a bringing large quantities of equipment.

The Auditorium house seats 700 on the main floor, including handicap seating, and 275 in the balcony.  It is a proscenium theatre with a curved apron that extends at the center an additional 14’ from the curtain line.  The proscenium opening is 55’ by 18’.  The wings are relatively small: approximately 16’ by 28’ on stage right and 20’ by 28” stage left.  There is a 10’ ceiling height, but the pipes for the sprinkler system make the space effectively 9’ in height.  There is a full grand and three sets of border/travelers.  We don not have traditional legs. There is a canvas drop with a scrim in front of it that we use as a cyc.  There is a crossover behind the cyc.  If you have scenery or a drop to be hung, please contact me as soon as possible to make the appropriate arrangements. We maybe restricted by the tight time constraints of Focus.  There are no specific dressing rooms in the auditorium.  There are two medium sized bathrooms beneath the stage for changing.  At times we can use the Dance Studio beneath the stage as a dressing room.

We will be laying a dance floor for Dance Night.  Unfortunately, we will be unable to lay a floor for any event during the day.  The change over time is prohibitive.  The stage floor is a traditional tongue and groove pine that is painted black.  Please do not use resin on the dance floor!  The dance floor will cover the stage floor from the proscenium to the cyc.  The apron will not have a dance floor.  It will be damped mopped to avoid a dust build up.

If you have a need for dressing screens, please contact me and we will be able to provide them.  Both sides of the stage have stage manager consoles with intercom to the booth.  There will be a full student crew there to assist with the load in/load out.  There will be student stage managers back stage.  These students are very capable and will communicate your technical cues to the booth.  Or if you would like a representative of your group may be in the booth during the performance to help with cueing.

    Lighting System Information

Our students will be the only ones operating our equipment.  Please make sure that your technical staff is aware of this restriction. They are well trained and will be able to execute the lighting cues.  If you would like a, representative of your group may be in the booth during the performance to help with cueing.  Again, our students will be the ones operating the equipment.  Please, do not ask us to make exceptions.

The stage is divided into eleven lighting areas (see enclosed draft).  The cyc is lit with red, blue and green cyc lighting.  We will have booms set up in front of grand, behind grand, behind first and second traveler.  With the exception of second traveler, each boom will have a cool and warm 40º Shakespeare.  They will be patched into channels that separate them by color and location (i.e. down stage warm, downstage cool).  We do not have the channel capacity to isolate them individually.  We do have a black scrim that is available to hang on a free batten if time allows us to do so.  We have the capacity to hang two specials for each group.  Please contact me as soon as possible if you are in need of specials.  Based on your needs, we will have the specials hung and focused prior to you arrival.

Our lighting system has a Composer computer board and the lighting system is dimmer per circuit.  We will have the board laid out for manual control for each of the lighting areas, specials and cyc lighting.  We can use the board as a one scene pre-set board or if time permits, we can utilize the memory system.  There is one follow spot that we will provide an operator.  The booth is located at the top of the balcony and there is a clear view of the stage.

The sound system in the Auditorium has been completely updated.  The soundboard is a thirty two-channel mixer board with four group masters, monitor control and a main master. We also have an effects channel. We can play CD, mini-disk and DAT tape.  If time permits, we can patch in a cassette deck.  We can provide you with ten (10) Shure body mics if you have a need.  We also have two(2) hand held wireless.  We will provide general stage sound support with six (6) Shure floor and six (6) hanging mics.  We can also provide six (6) omni-directional mic’s on stands.  There will be two stage monitors available as well.  They are normal set up in the rear of each wing.

The Studio Theatre

The Studio Theatre are located in the northeast corner of the school.  You can enter from the rear of the building or by the side entrance on the north side of the circle drive.  The Studio Theatre is a black box theatre that seats approximately 110-125 audience members.  The Studio will be set up in a three quarter round stage. Black curtains on tracks surround the performance area so entrances and exits can be adjusted.  There is a “Green Room” house right of the theatre. There are two dressing rooms and a washroom behind the theatre that are available for use.

The studio sound system consists of a four-channel mixer board that controls two CD players, a cassette player and a mini-disk player.  We can also set up one omni directional mic on a stand, if there is a need.  We can also set up one body mic.  The room is small so there is rarely a need for that type of amplification.

The Exhibition Gym

Because of the demanding schedule of Focus of the Arts, we will be setting up a stage in the Exhibition Gym.  The gym is located in the northwest corner of the school.  Because of construction, load in/out has to be done through the North Parking lot entrance. There will be a raised stage (approximately 24” on the west wall. The stage will be covered with a dance floor.  There will be steps on either side of the stage.  Black velour curtains will be hung to help soften the space and the windows on the east side of the gym will be blacked out.  There will be a full student tech crew to assist with your load in/out and the running of the performance.  A Faculty Supervisor, student Stage Manager and student Technical Director will be there to coordinate your technical needs.  I will be moving from one space to the next.  The Student Technical Director will be able to reach me at all times.
